Ahh, we are SO excited for this week’s Ask the Pros blog post by the best hair and makeup artist in the Tampa Bay Area – Christine from Femme Akoi!
Okay, so I might be a little biased because Christine has been doing my own hair for a few years, and she’ll be doing the hair and makeup for me and my bridesmaids for our wedding! But, to be honest, I’m very picky when it comes to my hair and makeup, so when I say Christine and her team is the best, well they kind of are! 😉
Plus, many of our brides have hired the Femme Akoi team for their own weddings, so we’ve had the opportunity to work with them on wedding days – and guys, I’m not joking when each of our brides have told us how incredible they are! So, if it’s not enough to hear it from me, take it from our brides who love them as well.
Alright, I think I’ve bragged on them enough hehe. So, today, Christine is giving you girls a few of her top tips to ensure you have flawless hair and makeup on your wedding day!
Make sure to set aside enough time for hair and makeup on wedding day
For the bride, we usually like to have about two hours to complete hair and makeup! For others, it’s about 45 minutes for each hair and makeup service, so be sure to keep that in mind when it comes to the number of bridesmaids you have. Usually, your photographer will determine when everyone should be ready by, so we work backwards from there to create a schedule for you!
We also suggest doing a trial run through prior so that there are no surprises on the big day and to make for a smoother time.
Consider incorporating one of these top trends into your look!
Recently, we’ve seen a lot of brides go with a vine type of accessory and have it weaved into the hair style. Embellishments that reflect natural elements are popular, such as leaves, florals and pearls. Hair styles in general are taking a more simple, organic turn so accessories are really beautiful and stand out in these types of styles. We are also a fan of simple veils that attach under the style instead of above; it’s a modern twist that is unexpected and very chic.
Don’t get a facial too close to wedding day
We do not recommend getting a facial too close to the wedding as it can sometimes stir up unwanted blemishes or irritate the skin. Keeping it about 4 weeks prior is a good idea to let those things run its course before the big day. We do, however, love when a bride has received a derma planing treatment which is a gentle exfoliation that removes all the fine hairs on the face so the makeup goes on flawlessly! This can be done closer to the wedding if you have been doing it for a little while.
Pro tip: Give yourself a mini lip treatment the week of
This is one of our pro tips! Use a soft toothbrush to brush off any dead skin on your lips and then apply a thick lip treatment overnight. Do this every night the week before for super soft, kissable lips 🙂
